Why Aren't You Crying
04:34
|
|||
You say your heart is broken, you put on such a good
show
Why aren’t you crying, why I don’t know
You act the part of the victim, I am convinced it is true
Why aren’t you crying, why aren’t ya blue
Why are you so, steely and cold?
Did you tell, your emotions, to pack up and go
You say your life is over, you say with firm resolve
Why aren’t you crying, who else is involved?
You are the star of the show; I’m sitting in the front row
Why aren’t you crying, I’ll check the program notes
It says, right here, that your part in this play
Is to be wooed, and won, and then thrown away
You say you’ve played this part, too many times, before
So why aren’t you crying, my ticket’s torn
Can’t you pretend, like it’s the first time
Why aren’t you crying, why aren’t you trying
I’m used to good acting on all my screens
The least you can do, is to make a big scene
Instead, your mask, is permanently smiling
Why aren’t you crying, why aren’t ya crying

must be a bookstore for sale filled with treasures galore
an old Studebaker with suicide doors
A dream with our name on it
nobody else, wants it.
nobody else wants what we want
nobody else wants what we want
everyone wants we we got
must be a cottage down an old gravel lane
a teardown that’s seen too much rain
we locked our eyes on it
that was it
nobody else wants we we want
nobody else wants what we want
everyone wants what we got
open your eyes, there's somebody nobody wants
open your heart, let a light shine in the dark
must be a road not taken, a frog not touched,
some extra not enough and not enough too much
something someone has missed, or dissed or dismissed
sometimes you gotta throw caution to the winds!
nobody else wants we want
nobody else wants what we want
everyone wants what we got
open your eyes, there's somebody nobody wants
open your heart, let a light shine in the dark

Getting a Puppy
03:34
|
|||
I’m so excited, I’m getting a puppy
she's just two and a half years old, spends most days alone
owner says the sooner, the better, I can get her
I’m so excited. I’m naming her autumn
I’m so excited, I’m getting a puppy
Monday night, or maybe Sunday, day
her owner works, so weekends would be better
That’s when I work! I’m so excited
Just fifty dollars, including all her shots
Everything Autumn needs, I already got
I’m so excited, I’m getting a puppy
and she won’t be alone, she won’t be alone, as of Monday

Cannabis
03:19
|

C A N N A BIS, C A N N A B I S
Cannabis, let’s talk about Cannabis, medicinal
It’s a plant with a past, THC works really fast, Cannabis the word
Cannabis, bring out the Cannabis, no worries mon, love to have a little dose that makes a medicine out of an herb
Soft drinks, rot your teeth. Caffeine, is just speed
Anything that needs a doctor to sign is, guaranteed to mess with your mind
Cannabis, how bout that Cannabis, let’s watch the show.
Passing a dispensary have to slow down just to see
who’s going inside
What’s wrong with Cannabis? Stoner’s pride
Mother sent me a grocery list, is there anything I missed?
Orange juice, cranberry juice, soy milk, bottled water?
and a liter of Bombay gin.
And she put in an emoticon with a silly grin
Cannabis, let’s talk about cannabis, you got any? Love to have a salad green that won’t get stuck between your teeth, cannabis the word.
Cannabis, bring on de cannabis, no worries mon, love to have a little dose that makes a medicine out of an herb.
What about the crime? And all the people doing time? And what about the folks who don’t like the smell, or think that society is marching…. straight to hell?
Cannabis! What’s wrong with Cannabis? Bring on it. It can solve some social ills and pay a lot of medical bills. If cannabis can’t do it, what can? Can cannabis? I think it can, do you think it can?

My Glasses
03:18
|
|||
One day I felt lonely, and blue, pessimistic view
nothing to light the way, seems like just yesterday
came a knock at the door, something I’ve heard before
had to get ready, had to get steady
I’ll be right there, long as I don’t fall
might take a minute to get down the hall
Gotta find my glasses, then I’ll find the door
don’t wanna step on them, they fell on the floor
Just come on in….. the door isn’t locked
Watch out for the stuff there, the hallway might be blocked
And then that knocking, just went away
nobody came in, or heard what I said
Gotta find my glasses, gonna need em someday
How long they been gone, I really can’t say

Time Is A Thief
03:12
|
|||
Hello from my new place, I’m glad we shopped around
No more dirty dishes, or cat to kick around
Looks like on the outside, the mansion we could never buy
I remember thinking, I’m gonna like it here
Been such a long time, since someone called me dear
Watchin’ the ships roll in, watch em roll away again
Time is a thief
from the day you were gone it’s been hard to sleep
A day is a minute, there’s no second chance
I love ya, I miss ya, I’ll seeya soon
Lemme tell ya what happened, around here the other day
Crews changed all the signs out
Place now has a new name
Think they might move me to a room across the way
You know I got new friends, and a very friendly nurse
And the ambulance that comes, least it don’t look like a hearse
New sheets on that bed, I guess it could be worse
Time is a thief
from the day you were gone it’s been hard to sleep
A day is a minute, ’s no second chance
I love ya, I miss ya, I’ll seeya soon.

Stuff I'm Saving
03:24
|
|||
An old newspaper clipping, with an underline
a box of pictures, some old times
memory that lingers, past its prime,
must be stuff I’m saving
Tickets from a show, with whom I went, perhaps you know
a copy of the license we once had to have and hold
a snapshot of our baby, when she was one year old
must be stuff I’m saving
memory is dim of past events which persevere
as these scraps sail in the wind, a flapping sound I hear
some scribbles I can’t read, encomia and screen
must be stuff I’m saving
A comic book about a wart hog, with super powers
an old photograph that you inscribed forever ours
this indian charm, that came from your great grandma
a airline ticket to anonymity in Omaha
this foolish heart, that persists in being raw
must be stuff I’m saving

When I Get Out
03:13
|
|||
He walked into the station with his lawyer
smoking a big stogie, and buzzing like a bee
about ten feet outside the station door
he planted that cigar in a tree carefully:
I can smoke it when I get out, smoke it when I get out
Tree grow, cigar go, nowhere. I can smoke it when I get out.
In winter it thawed and froze and thawed and pokey time took its toll
In fall the color changed just like a leaf, in winter it grew lonely for its owner to release.
That stogie was a prisoner in the tree, twigs grew all around and underneath.
Lawyer took a glance up there one day, remembered that his client once did say:
I can smoke it when I get out. Smoke it when I get out.
Tree grow, cigar go, nowhere. I can smoke it when I get out.
Outside the police station where the seasons come and go,
folks who would remember don’t come out that door no more.
So nobody noticed, when that tree was bare, something was gone.
I can smoke it when I get out, smoke it when I get out. Tree grow, cigar go nowhere. I can smoke it when I get out.

You don't know me anymore, you don't know me anymore I haven't changed, and you haven't changed,
you don't know me any more
Open, was the door, dwindling was the store
I haven't changed, and you haven't changed, and
there's no keepin score
Why won't the clock turn back its hands?
Why won't the angels intervene?
Why won't we, be who we were?
What is asundered, at the seam?
I won't see you anymore, I won't see you anymore
I haven't changed, and you haven't changed, you won't see me anymore

Island in the Harbor
02:50
|
|||
Tired of heating up the pavement, with every little step I take
Tired of aggravating the elevator, when I could be navigating by the sea
I know the waves will be lappin’, at the tiki bar down the beach
won’t be dealing with traffic, never be out of reach
Island in the harbor, gotta get away gotta get away
Island in the harbor, going for a springtime holiday
Gathering shells by the sea, could even sound attractive to me
so would a few other things, on an island in the harbor
I know the waves will be lappin’, at the tiki bar down the beach
won’t be dealing with traffic, never be far out of reach
Island in the harbor, gotta get away gotta get away
Island in the harbor, going for a springtime holiday

Small Place
03:57
|
|||
Once’d I had a tractor, got stuck in the mud
That tractor is gone now, and I got me some new mud
Gonna get my new tractor, drive it over there
Gonna show, that mud, who’s the boss around here
Small place…… small time…..
Small problems….. all mine
Neighbors kepta a callin, complain about the noise
That noise is gone now and I got me some new sounds
Gotta brand new pedal board, and some, real fab gear
Gonna show, that amp, who’s the boss around here
Small place…. Small time….
Love your neighbor…. I love mine
Cousin calls my wife, she says I ain’t home
Won’t let me speak to him he’s lookin for a loan
Kid wants to borrow the truck, the gas tank is on E
Gonna show, that kid, who’s the boss around here
Big truck….no gas…
Love ya kid….don’t drive fast
We live out in the country, give it our all
Curse the guy or gal who invented ethanol
I prefer to get my corn, from this bottle here
Gonna show, that mirror, who’s the boss around here
Hey we don’t want no fightin or cussin in here
We just wanna be a place someone can have a beer
Or dance a little two step, or shoot a round of pool
This small place is big enough for me and you
Small place…. Big time
Life’s short….all mine

Picture of You
03:05
|
|||
I’m adding light, to my picture, of you, not
sure what to do with the blue the
yellows are fading, the reds are too harsh, not
sure if the colors are true, my
picture of you has, the subject in mind, the
artistic vision seems perfectly fine
all comes together except in the night, so I’m
thinking of adding some light….you
do have a side that is grey, a
th color I’m leavin’ that way
to change the grey would change everything else
best not to mess with your bad self, I’m adding
light to my picture of you. Hope not to mess it all up.
Can’t change the facts and can’t ever go back, so I’ll
add light to my picture of you

You Call It Joggin'
03:02
|
|||
You say it’s the best release that you’ve ever found
you say you’re trying to lose weight but you ain’t lost a pound
while you were out there with your friends I’m home beatin’ the kids again
you call it joggin’ but I call it runnin’ around
you call it joggin’ but I call it runnin’ around
soles on your running shoes ain’t wearing down
friends all smile and they agree, yeah she’s joggin’, definitely
you call it joggin’ but I call it runnin’ around
you call it joggin’ but I call it runnin’ around
You’re dragging that dirty ole towel all over town
you come in with your hair all wet, smellin’ like shampoo instead of sweat
you call it joggin’ but I call it runnin’ around
